The Sunshine State, Florida, is one of the most scenically stunning and beautiful members of the Union. Florida offers not only traditional, natural beauty in the form of beaches and coastline, but also urban beauty in the major cities and the charm of the outdoors. One of the best things to do in the Sunshine State, aside from visiting theme parks and the beaches of the region, is experiencing the wilderness parks of Florida. Many visitors and residents of Florida choose to do this by camping in the numerous state and national parks of the state. There are a number of interesting things that should be considered when you make the decision to go camping in Florida, including the type of campground to be visited, the type of temporary residence, the time of year for your trip, and the equipment to be brought on the trip.

Florida is home to literally hundreds of campgrounds and parks, all of which offer their own unique attractions and strong points. Most of the camping locations in the Sunshine State are located along the coasts of Florida, both adjoining the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. For those who are uninterested in “roughing it”, as it were, there are several lodges and bungalows that offer facilities comparable to those in national hotel chains. Individuals with recreational vehicles or camping trailers, there are numerous RV parks, while those who prefer to use just tents have the most options.

When camping in the wilderness, there are a number of options as to where to live. The most common option for camping is a tent, although this seemingly simple construct is actually somewhat complex. You should be sure which model of tent you intend to purchase – pup tent, regular, or family-sized – as well as carefully reviewing the instructions for your tent. Others might opt for the slightly more expensive option of a recreational vehicle or RV, which offers many of the comforts of home along with mobility and increased security. The most expensive option for temporary housing is a cabin, bungalow, lodge, or other permanent housing.

The last two important factors are inextricably intertwined – time of year and the appropriate equipment. While the weather of the Sunshine State is quite stable when compared with other states, certain times of year have slightly cooler weather, heavier winds, and higher levels of rainfall compared to others. This means that depending on when you plan to go camping in Florida, you should bring different types of sleeping gear, clothing, and clothing. If its in the colder season and/or you’re travelling further inland, you should bring heavier clothes and a warmer sleeping bag, but if it’s summer or late spring and your destination is near the ocean, you should consider bringing swimming clothes, shorts, t-shirts, and even just a couple of sheets and blankets. Regardless of where you decide to go camping in Florida, if you bring the proper equipment and choose the right camping site, your trip will be a memorable one.
